Call me Lucy

In Charles Schultz’s 1965 classic A Charlie Brown Christmas, Lucy asks for one thing for Christmas…

Lucy Van Pelt: I know how you feel about all this Christmas business, getting depressed and all that. It happens to me every year. I never get what I really want. I always get a lot of stupid toys or a bicycle or clothes or something like that.

Charlie Brown: What is it you want?

Lucy Van Pelt: Real estate.

On Friday, Dad bought my tree. The tree that I shot my deer from this past season. It had been on private land at the start of the season, became public land when CMP acquired the land in order to extend their powerlines through Maine and became private land again when Dad signed the papers.

After the paperwork was signed, I made Mom hike down to my tree so she could take a picture of me and Dad and our tree. I’m such a geek! But, that’s the big news – Dad bought the land to secure our hunting and keep my tree safe!

My tree also has 28 acres attached to it = )

  1. congrats!

    • Thanks Tom! I am super excited about it. This expands the land we hunt on to about 50 acres in that area. It will be great to have the responsibility to keep habitat prime for the deer herd.

    • Great news, I was wondering what the news might have been. My first deer was on our property 19 years ago, but our neighbors cleared land which altered the deer movement pattern. Never will I shoot a buck from that stand again (after 8 bucks). Glad to see you've got your spot secured…

    • Thanks DEDH! I shot my first deer on our mountain about a 5 minute drive from where the Sky Condo is. Its on about 380 acres. Dad will cut some of the oak on the new piece of land, but he is very aware of the deer patterns.

  2. That is very cool. Your ginormous question mark post had me hanging, so I am glad to hear that you secured land and it will be conserved for years to come…Phil

    • I wanted to intrigue to drive people back to find out what it was. Next time, I will make it worth it – some sort of give away.
