2012 Moose Lotto

I was the 26th person to buy a chance in the permit lottery this year/today (they went on sale less than an hour ago I would guess). The cost has gone up, $12 to $15 and there is now an option to NOT be entered, but to get a bonus point for this year instead. Last year, 50,000 people entered the 2011 lottery for a shot at the 3,862 permits that were available. I will know on Saturday June 24 if Dad and I will be headed out into the wild country to (attempt) to bag us a moose. It didnt work out the last time.

This is last year’s moose that my best friend’s Dad got in the Allagash.

  2. Thanks Trey! Maybe I will get one, then when you come up, we can enjoy it

  3. Good luck to you!! how many tons of jerky can that big boy provide?

  4. Whats the avg assumption? 35-40% of field dress will be meat. The moose above weighed 875… so 300-350lbs of meat. A lot of jerky =)

What a dead moose can tell you

Three years ago, Dad and I headed into the woods to get a moose. I took a week off from work and we were rocked and ready. Zone 17. In hindsight, I can see why Rick wanted to trade permits for that zone. Throughout the week, we saw one dead moose and a spot where one...
